For Fall 2006 Geneseo's students, faculty and staff have selected Letters from Young Activists for the Summer Reading book for all new students.
This book brings our 2006-07 theme year commemorating Susan B. Anthony into the twenty-first century. Susan B. Anthony was a reformer in the 19th century. What kinds of social activism engages young people today?
Most students will receive copies of the Summer Reading Book at Orientation. New students who don't attend Orientation will be contacted and sent a copy of the book. Everyone will participate in a book discussion (with a boxed dinner) with current students, faculty, and staff on Sunday August 27 at 5:30 pm. Your SRP section will be on your course schedule.
After the book discussion we gather for the ceremonial start of the semester: New Student Convocation. This outdoor ceremony on the upper quad, including faculty in academic regalia, your welcome to college, and your first chance to sing the alma mater, lasts till about 8:00 pm when there is a Student Association reception for all new students.

Berger, Dan, and Chesa Boudin (et al). Letters from Young Activists: Today's Rebels Speak Out (2005) "Who will lead America in the years to come? Letters from Young Activists introduces America's energized, exciting new generation of activists. The contributors to this book are atheist, Christian, Jewish, Muslim; queer, heterosexual, bisexual--Americans from every type of background, united in working towards racial, economic, environmental and global justice. In letters addressed to their parents, to past generations, to each other, to the youth of tomorrow and to their future selves, they articulate their vision for the world."
